Marlane and Donald’s wedding is a story of resilience and joy, celebrated at the United Methodist Church in Chili, NY on May 17th, 2025. As rain tapped on the rooftops and thunder rumbled in the distance, the couple shone with moments of love in the midst of the storm. With a playful bubble exit, photos taken beneath a bright rainbow, and a celebration full of laughter, their day was much more than a wedding; it was a testament to overcoming challenges together.
The Venue: A Charming Church Setting
The United Methodist Church provided the perfect backdrop for Marlane and Donald’s vows. Its quaint, traditional architecture beautifully matched the couple's vision. The sacred space, filled with family and friends, created a warm and inviting atmosphere, even when dark clouds loomed overhead.

The couple infused personal touches into their ceremony including an ancient Celtic handfasting ritual, in which the phrase "tying the knot" stems from. Marlane and Donald also shared private vows and a comforting first touch, while saving the first look for the walk down the aisle.
Embracing the Weather: A Silver Lining
How do you make the best of a rainy day? For Marlane and Donald, it was all about embracing the unexpected. While some couples might worry about rain, Marlane found beauty in the moment. After the ceremony, rain showers paused just long enough for a charming bubble exit, creating a magical scene that showcased their playful spirits.
They also experienced a delightful surprise—a vibrant rainbow that appeared shortly after the rain subsided. This stunning sight not only provided a breathtaking opportunity for photos but also brought a special meaning, representing hope and happiness.

Candid photos of the couple beneath the rainbow will be memories they treasure for years to come. Their photographer, Tracy Dorr, perfectly captured their joyous spirits with the beauty of Mother Nature as the backdrop.
DIY Wedding: Crafting Memories Together
One of the standout features of Marlane and Donald's wedding was the DIY projects that added a personal touch. Marlane diligently transformed her creative ideas into reality while remaining budget-conscious. She crafted unique decor pieces that resonated with her style, and involved family and friends in the process, fostering a sense of community.
From a handmade floral arch to bud vases—featuring flowers that matched the season—to personalized signage with sweet messages, every detail reflected Marlane's thoughtfulness. These choices not only saved costs but also made their wedding feel more intimate and meaningful. Other brides can embrace this spirit by tapping into their creativity, making their big day a true reflection of their love story while maintaining budget limits.
The Celebration: Partying the Night Away
After the heartfelt ceremony, the celebration moved to the Woodside Lodge at Black Creek Park. This venue offered rustic charm and scenic views, creating the ideal setting for a joyful reception. Here, Marlane and Donald danced the night away with family and friends, celebrating their love and the beginning of their new life together.
The Woodside Lodge hosted a variety of activities, ensuring guests remained entertained throughout the evening. A buffet provided by Justin Yale Catering, featured different entrée options, including a savory vegetarian lasagna that was a hit amongst the guests! A display of desserts provided by Nothing Bundt Cakes was quickly snagged by the guests. The mobile bar from Last Call Cocktail kept the drinks flowing and the lively music from Goodtimes Karaoke and Sound got everyone onto the dance floor, making the atmosphere feel vibrant and energetic.
